A mood disorder is a mental health condition that affects the emotional state. It can be characterized by extreme sadness (depression) or extreme high (hypomania or mania).

Causes a person to feel anxious, sad, and cranky

A person loses pleasure in all activities

Affects a person’s energy level and quality of life

Causes disturbances in sleeping and eating patterns

Increases suicidal thoughts

Affects the ability to focus and function normally

Causes feelings of guilt and worthlessness

 

Bipolar Disorder

Causes a disruption in mood, causing it to go extremely high (mania) and low (depression).

Causes impulsive behaviors

Causes someone to feel on top of the world (feeling of being superior to others)

Causes increased energy

When should I see a doctor?

If you feel your emotions are affecting your relationships at home, work, and your social circles

If you stopped getting involved in pleasurable activities like soccer

Having a problem with drugs and alcohol

If you are having suicidal thoughts
